While elections are not won or lost through celebrity involvement, it definitely does not hurt. Recently, we’ve seen The Breakfast Club publicly support Florida gubernatorial candidate, Andrew Gillum. In addition, we’ve seen Chance The Rapper openly support Chicago mayoral candidate, Amara Eniya. Not to mention, Taylor Swift has voiced her support of a few candidates down in Tennessee. This week, another public figure used his likeness to gain some momentum for a political candidate.
Comedian and actor, Will Ferrell, took a trip down to Georgia this week to gain some support for Georgia Gubernatorial candidate, Stacey Abrams. During his trip to the peach state, Ferrell and his wife took to Kennesaw State University to gather a few student volunteers for Abrams. In addition, he went door to door to encourage residents to get out and vote for Abrams.
Ferrell’s wife, Viveca Paulin-Ferrell, told reporters, “We’re going to go knock on doors for Stacey Abrams. You never know in Hollywood if it helps or hurts but we’re trying get out the vote and drive people to the polls.” She also added, “It’s a critical election coming up and you have to care about it and get young people to care in order to use their power of voting.”
In recent weeks, Ferrell has also met with political figures like Corey Booker and Doug Jones. Going forward, Ferrell will continue to remain politically aware and active. Abrams will definitely need the support as she nears election day on Tuesday, November 6th against Brian Kemp. If she wins, she’ll become the first Black woman to ever become governor of any state in the United States of America.
