After leaving China to come to the Wizards to compete for a championship, Will Bynum found himself in an unexpected situation. When John Wall injured his wrist in the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Atlanta Hawks, Bynum found himself having to take on a much larger than expected role in the Wizards’ offense.
The highlight to Bynum’s season was from Games 3-4 where he averaged 9.5 points, which shows the guard out of Georgia Tech can play in any situation. This is the exact reason the Guangdong Southern Tigers want him back, and have offered a three-year contract.
Following From Washington Post.
A free agent once again this summer, Bynum said Guangdong has a standing three-year offer for him to return. He is “definitely considering it” but will seek a comparable deal from an NBA team before making a decision.
Bynum expressed how when he played in China, he did everything in his power to help the team win, and was willing to do whatever it took to help the Tigers get victories. He knows this unselfish attitude makes Guangdong want him back, and the team mentality will make him a hot commodity.
Following From Washington Post.
“I came over there with the mentality to win and teach the organization how to win, sharing the basketball and learning how to win. There’s a difference between people just coming over there for a couple months. That’s why they want me to come back for three years because of the way that I played and the effect I had on the organization and the players. Because not only was I playing well myself but I was getting other people involved and making it easier for our team and having fun with it.”
Bynum will struggle to find a three-year deal in the NBA, but could find a larger contract if he is willing to take a one year contract. A scenario similar to this year could be very possible if Guangdong and Bynum agree to a deal where he could come back to the NBA once the Chinese season ends.
