I want to stop something right in its tracks. People these days get caught in hype and allow it nearly every time.
And the Portland hype, it’s up there at the moment…
Now before I dive in, they will make the Playoffs I can definitely see it. I didn’t see it before preseason (but who did?) but they seem legit now. But that’s not what’s getting me steaming.
I’m now seeing some people on Twitter putting Portland and NBA Finals in the same sentence… I ask them people, are you high?!
For one thing they weren’t even IN the Playoffs last year! Do you people forget that?! Now I like LaMarcus Aldridge, underrated with a capital U but I don’t see him or any of the Portland squad leading the team like a LeBron, KD, Parker, Duncan has and that’s only the past few years! I could go on. Renowned leaders all of them, we know what they had to do to get to the Finals. Do you really see LaMarcus Aldridge or Damian Lillard being in that list?
Yes LaMarcus had a big night the other day, yes Portland smashed their franchise record for three pointers in a game with 21. One problem… THAT AIN’T GONNA HAPPEN EVERY NIGHT! It’s a blip not a trend. Their winning is a trend I’ll give them that but individual/team performances like that are rare.
Not to mention this is the most stacked Western Conference in years you really think OKC or San Antonio, teams with very recent Playoff experience will fall under the mighty Blazers? (That was sarcasm by the way) NO. Just because they’ve had a good 1/4 of the season does not mean they’re on lock for a Finals appearance.
Think before you send people. Including you Roy Hibbert… Fronting like the Pacers have the Eastern Conference sewn up…
Last reason why the Blazers won’t make it… What’s their motive? Every championship winning team has a motive. The Heat, several individual motives. The Spurs, representing fundamental team basketball. OKC, fuelled by their amazing talent. The Pacers, cruelly beaten last year and with a solid chip on their shoulder.
And the Blazers, I’m stumped. Somebody tell me what theirs is? We didn’t get to the Playoffs last year?
That’s not really a chip on shoulder motive is it? Every team that put’s the words chamiponship and us, needs that special thing to get them over the hump and the Blazers don’t have one.
So… Stop hyping up a team that is having a good trend right now. Appreciate their good play now but don’t act like their unstoppable. I dare you to put money on them if you think their that good.
Try picking a team that actually has a chance.
