Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito made some history as he threw the first career no-hitter of his career. Giolito threw the first no-hitter for the Chicago White Sox since Phillip Humber there one during the 2012 season. This was the 19th no-hitter that has been thrown in the organization’s history.

This no-hitter was also the first no-hitter that was thrown during the 2020 season; a few others have come close, including Kenta Maeda, who had one heck of an outing for the Minnesota Twins just over a week ago.
The no-hitter saw Giolito strikeout thirteen of the Pittsburgh Pirates hitters, only walking one for them. Giolito’s no-hitter comes almost a calendar year from the last no-hitter, which was thrown by Justin Verlander on September 1st of the 2019 season.
Giolito’s 2020 season has been comprised of six starts where he has a 2-2 record. Giolito has a 3.89 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, as well as 45 strikeouts over 34.2 innings pitched. He has made quite the turn around from the 2018 season. In 2019 Giolito also strung together an incredible season for the White Sox.
The White Sox are competing for a postseason berth as their rebuild nears an end, and the era of competition looks to have arrived. Giolito’s pitching prowess only helps the White Sox postseason hopes even more.
