“The president is not dropping out, that’s something the campaign has shared,” Jean-Pierre said.
Jean-Pierre’s comments arrive as not one, but two U.S. Representatives have called for Biden to exit the raise following his performance in the latest presidential debate.
“President Biden has continued to run substantially behind Democratic senators in key states and in most polls has trailed Donald Trump. I had hoped that the debate would provide some momentum to change that. It did not,” Rep. Lloyd Doggett said.
“If he’s the candidate, I’m going to support him, but I think that this is an opportunity to look elsewhere,” Rep. Raúl Grijalva added in a separate statement.
Despite those concerns, Biden and company feel confident in their decision to move forward with the campaign.
“The president is cleared-eyed, and he is staying in the race,” Jean-Pierre continued.
“He’s staying in the race, that is what the president has promised to do … he wants to continue to work on the successes that he’s had, his record.”
