As 2017 creeps around the corner, a new year of Original TV shows, New releases, and updates that will make you want to skip work and watch Netflix all day. January is set to bring a lot of new TV shows and movies to Netflix and us here at Def Pen have got the whole list of the most anticipated on Netflix.
The Netflix Original Series
A particularly quiet month for Netflix Original TV Series, but there is one show that has garnered a lot of attention because it’s an adaptation of a famous children’s book series Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. Jim Carrey starred in the 2004 movie that was based on the Snicket books, but season 1 will star Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf, the crazy uncle and guardian of 3 orphan children who will do anything in order to get his inheritance. A Series of Unfortunate Events is set to come to Netflix on January 13th, and you can bet people are excited about it.
Netflix will also be bringing a new original series called The Frontier on January 20th for its first season. The Canadian production will star Jason Mamoa who will play Aquaman in the upcoming DC superhero movie Justice League coming to theaters in 2017. The story will follow Declan Harp, an America outlaw who tries to breach the fur trade business in Northern Canada. This seems like a must watch show coming to Netflix in January.
Netflix Original Movie of the Month
Our Netflix Original Movie of the Month choice is The Coin Heist which will follow 4 unlikely prep school students who will have to band together to steal from the U.S Mint, after losing their school funding. It’s based on the Novel by Elisa Ludwig called The Coin Heist and will star Pretty Little Liars star Sasha Pieterse and Alex Saxon. It’s set to release on January 6th.
The New Netflix Shows & Movies
Bates Motel is back for its final season, as we will finally see how Norman Bates evolves to become The Pyscho. The 5th and final season will kick off on January 21st and Rihanna will supposedly be joining the star-studded cast led by Freddie Highmore who plays the Psychotic killer and Vera Farmiga who plays his mother Norma Bates. I personally can’t wait for the finale of the prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s Pyscho.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will continue to follow Danny De Vito, Charlie Day and cast for the 11th season of the renowned comedy TV show and that will be released on January 3rd. F is for Family creator Bill Burr will have his 3rd Netflix comedy standup with Netflix aired on January 31st, as a part of the new Netflix Standup’s that will be released this year.
An array of Superman movies will be released on Netflix including the original Christopher Reeves Superman movies (1978-1987) and Superman Returns. Other classic movies will be joining Netflix with V For Vendetta, E.T, Hugo, Ocean’s Twelve and Braveheart all joining Netflix in January.
