How many times have you eaten Mcdonald’s in your life? Over 25? Over 50? I would venture to say most of us would answer with the latter. Have you ever seen pineapples at Mcdonald’s? Organic milk? Probably not, unless you lived in the UK. Vani Hari AKA the Food Babe is at the forefront of exposing companies for the unhealthy and potentially lethal ingredients they are putting in our food. Most recently, she has been investigating claims that Mcdonald’s is serving other countries food that is healthier than what is being served in the US. Not only are other countries being served healthier options like pineapples and organic milk, the food is being cooked with better ingredients.
Remember a little thing called silly putty? One of the main ingredients in it is dimethylpolysiloxane, the fancy term for anti-foaming agent. That stuff is currently in the oil that Mcdonald’s uses on the fries in the US. Guess where it isn’t being used, the UK. Check out the picture above showing all of the ingredients used in fries in the US vs the UK. If you weren’t aware, a smaller ingredient label with words you can actually understand is usually a sign of a healthier food.
According to Vani, restaurants in the UK are bound by law to tell customers if GMO’s are used in any of their meals. Not the case in our country. Even so, most places in the UK don’t even have to provide this warning because they simply do not use GMO’s. Now I know how hard it is to resist pulling into that drive through when that smell wafts through your car. Do yourself and your health a favor and find a place that makes french fries without silly putty.
