The spread is one of the most common ways to bet on sports in America. However, with the introduction of sports betting in new areas it is going to be very difficult for a lot of the new bettors to figure out how to bet or even know what picking the spread means. Since that is the case, it is time for people to learn what this means so they can use all the free picks they get and know these will help them in getting a better chance of winning off of those free picks or even the expert picks they can buy.

What Is The Spread?

The spread is actually very simple for you to learn about. The spread tends to be more along the lines of the points that a team is expected to win by. This is going to make it easier for you to make your pick on the spread and the number of points the team is supposed to win by. Before you start to ask, though, most of the sports in the world that you can bet on do have a spread.

How Does The Spread Work?

The spread is actually very easy for you to figure out and bet on. The spread means that the team has to win by that amount for you to win. For example, if the spread is -7.5 for the Lakers that means the Lakers would have to win the game by -7.5 points or 8 points since the game is done in whole points for you to win your wager.

At the same time, you may see a spread that is sitting at +7.5 for the Denver Nuggets. In this instance you can pick the Nuggets and if they do not allow their opponent to win by more than 7.5 points the Nuggets would win. However, if the Nuggets win outright as the underdog you would still be considered a winning bet for that game.

Do All Sports Have A Spread?

In almost all cases the sports that you can bet on will have a spread that you can bet on. Yes, this includes sports like Premier League and MLB. The spread for those are typically going to be more along the lines of -1.5 or +1.5 which is going to make it easier for you to find out what the team has to win by. However, with such a small margin on some of these sports, it is going to be important for you to be sure of what you are betting on.

Placing a bet on the spread is definitely an exciting way to win and if you are using free picks it means you do not have any additional outlay for paid picks. At the same time it makes it very difficult to win if you do not know how to bet on the spread or even what the spread is. With this article, it should have helped you learn more about the spread and what would make you a winner when you decide to bet on sports.
