Something interesting has happened in NBA Free Agency that has never happened. DeAndre Jordan is having second thoughts about going to the Dallas Mavericks. After announcing last week that he would leave Los Angeles for Dallas, DeAndre may come back. With all of Clippers nation and all it’s players making their way to Houston (where DeAndre is) to convince him to stay, the likelihood of that happening is getting higher and higher. Despite that, Wesley Matthews has made it clear he will still be signing with the Mavericks.
Matthews was interested in teaming up with DeAndre, but now with his move it was uncertain what Matthews would do. According to Jason Quick of The Oregonian:
Wesley Matthews says he will sign with the Dallas Mavericks regardless if center DeAndre Jordan changes his mind and returns to the Los Angeles Clippers, sources close to the player told The Oregonian/Oregonlive.
Matthews, who last week gave a verbal agreement to Dallas to sign a four-year deal worth around $13 million the first year, is expected to sign and be introduced to the Dallas media on Thursday, the first day the NBA moratorium ends.
Matthews was deciding between the Mavericks and the Raptors and it seems as if his short time as a verbal agreement to the Mavericks has swayed him to stick with them. DeAndre plays a huge role in how well the Mavericks do next season and right now it’s a race to see who can get the big man. Both Mark Cuban and Doc Rivers are in Houston to meet with DeAndre and try to sway him. It makes sense for DeAndre to go to the Clippers in my opinion, just because for the Clippers, they have a higher chance of making it to the Finals. Dallas has a long way to becoming a contender. Their bench is a mess and they don’t have a starting point guard. DeAndre has a couple of days to decide before his verbal agreement can become official.
