Injuries are what breaks careers. They’re just something that we hate to see. When Wesley Matthews was declared out for the season, I think we all knew that this was the beginning of the end for the Blazers core four of Lillard, Matthews, Batum and Aldridge. Matthews is a free agent, Batum has been traded and LaMarcus is pretty much out of there.
Now Matthews is currently recovering from an achilles injury, which is notorious for shortening players’s careers. But even though he is now an achilles sufferer. Matthews thinks that a $15 Million asking price is reasonable.
The rumored asking price had it’s critics, with some suggesting Matthews’ value decreased after he suffered a torn left Achilles’ tendon in March, forcing him to miss the remainder of the season. To his credit, though, Matthews has already resumed basketball activities after having surgery to repair the Achilles’ tendon and vows to be ready for a new season in October.
When reached by phone on Monday evening and asked about that $15 million figure, Matthews told CSNNW.com: “I don’t think that’s an unreasonable number.”
Even though there’s research on achilles injuries and how they hinder players, I agree with Matthews. I think $15 Million is a decent number to go on. When 100% he is a great two-way player. He can defend and can drop threes. Why not?
