Actor Wendell Pierce has shared that he will star as legendary musician B.B. King in the upcoming film, The Thrill Is On. Pierce shared the news with fans on Twitter earlier this month.
“We are official. Preparation has begun on a film where I will be honored to play the great, BB King. Humbled,” Pierce tweeted.
The Thrill Is On will focus on the relationship between King and a young musician named Michael Zanetis. Zanetis and Melora Donoghue will write the script. However, there is no word on who will produce the film or who will join Pierce in the film.
King tragically passed away just five years ago after battling dementia. Prior to his passing, King was known as one of the pioneers of blues. Over the course of his legendary career, he released more than 30 albums and racked up more than a dozen GRAMMY awards. Ironically, he won his first GRAMMY Award 50 years ago for his performance on “The Thrill Is Gone.”
