If you’re a fan of hip-hop, it’s hard to go through your music library and find a hit song that wasn’t in some way touched by super producers Swizz Beatz or Just Blaze. Sure, the two producers haven’t been pumping out as much music lately as they have in the past but its hard to deny the star power the beatmakers possess.
With that in mind, the two decided to have a ‘Beats Battle’. It was the first time in recent memory that two producers with such a high profile went head to head and the hype was real. But there was one catch, the whole battle was going to be streamed on Instagram live.
The stage was set. In a secret location, the two producers were planted on opposite sides of a room just going through their lexicon of hits. For well over two hours the legendary music makers were going track for track, mix for mix, beat for beat. The stream was on Instagram live and hit well over 20,000 people at one point on Swizz and Just Blaze’s IG pages. Hot 97’s own Ebro was in attendance for the event playing de facto host, and he manned the camera for Swizz Beatz.
Also in the room with Ebro were some other notable hip-hop and R&B stars like Busta Rhymes, Alicia Keys and Cassidy. But on the instagram live feed, there was an infinite list of some top music acts. Diddy, Meek Mill, 2 Chainz, Dj Khaled, Pusha T, T.I., Timbaland, Q tip, Jhalil Beatz, Snoop Dogg and Wale were just a few of the big names to check-in and say they were watching this historic moment.

Thankfully, Hot 97 was there and also streamed the event on YouTube for everyone to enjoy if you didn’t want to use the social media application.
So grab a sandwich or open up that paper you need to write and get comfortable. It’s time to watch the Beats Battle between Swizz Beats and Just Blaze.
Also, did you miss the unreleased upcoming DMZ, Jay Z, Jadakiss, Nas song that Swizz Beatz played? Go back up to the video and rewind to about the 1:46:00 mark and take a listen.
Oh, and at the end of the event, Swizz Beatz announced this wouldn’t be the last one. Look out for Timbaland, Pharrell, AraabMuzik and other producers to also go head-to-head in the future. There was no winner or loser. They just did it for the culture.
