The Sixers are tanking so hard that they are letting their players coach the team.
During last nights game against the Heat, CSN Philly cameras caught Joel Embiid, who has yet to play a second in the NBA, drawing up a play for the Sixers during a timeout. Sixers coach Brett Brown said he gave the opportunity for multiple players to draw up plays, something he learned from Gregg Popovich when Brown was assistant with the San Antonio Spurs.
“From time to time you give a player the opportunity to get his team and give him something. I think it’s fantastic. You see everybody all engaged,” Brown said. “In the end, I took control.
Brown would continue to say:
“They came up with some good stuff. I think when you’re at a stage where we’re at with a team, I do anything and everything to keep things fun.”
I imagine it’s hard to “keep things fun” when you can’t win 20 games in a season. Being serious though, that is honestly pretty cool that Brett Brown lets his players do this. It’s different, and for a team that is just terrible, it does seem pretty “cool” or “fun” and keeps things interesting. Besides did you see Embiid snap on Hollis Thompson? The dude wasn’t paying attention and coach Embiid was having no non sense in his huddle.
