After being one of the best players during the NBA Summer League, Glen Rice Jr has apparently ran his course as a Wizard and Washington has released Rice according to WUSA9.
Rice seemed poised to see an extended role this season, especially when Bradley Beal went down with a preseason injury. Clashes with head coach Randy Wittman and an inability to improve his game on the offensive end, however, left Rice the odd man out on the Wizards roster
It was reported earlier in the week that the Wizards were shopping Rice, hoping to get some return on the young prospect, but there was no market with teams knowing he was destined for the waiver wire anyway. With Rice’s athleticism and potential to defend, there is an upside, however, he is a project and the Wizards are in win now mode.
This is the horrible side of the NBA. The business side. Of course Rice has talent. We’ve seen it in Summer League and when he was in the D-League. Unfortunately for Rice the Wizards didn’t want to cater for a project and Rice is currently a project. I’m sure a team will pick him up soon and give him the attention he deserves.
