Warriors Rookie forward Kevon Looney will be sidelined 4-6 months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right hip, the team announced in a press release.
“Kevon has his entire NBA career ahead of him and we felt that, in consultation with our medical staff, Kevon and his representatives, it was best to address the issue now,” Warriors general manager Bob Myers said. “He will have our complete support throughout the rehabilitation process and we are confident he will make a full recovery.”
The Warriors drafted Looney 30th overall in June’s draft after the 19 year old played one season at UCLA where he had averages of 11.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, on 47% shooting.
Looney was once projected in many mock drafts as a lottery pick, but health concerns scared some teams off, causing him to fall to Golden State with the last pick in the first round.
The 6’9 forward did play for Golden State’s summer league team in Las Vegas and showed signs of potential, averaging 9.3 points and 7.2 rebounds, while shooting 41% from the floor and 50% from three point range.
