The Golden State Warriors are in the NBA Finals after going through a challenging Western Conference. They didn’t get through it unscathed. Stephen Curry took a nasty fall and Klay Thompson is out indefinitely due to a concussion so they will take the week off with open arms and that might also mean that they get back Marreese Speights but that’s a long shot.
Their coaching staff has been a well oiled machine all season and assistant coach Alvin Gentry has been an integral part of the squad. And as we all know, if your team does well, you just might get your own gig and that is what might happen to Mr Gentry as he recently had a 2nd interview with the New Orleans Pelicans.
But unlike nine days ago when he was interviewed for the first time in San Francisco, Gentry’s second interview occurred in New Orleans, sources say.
Gentry is the first known candidate to be extended a second interview by the Pelicans. But sources confirm that Jeff Van Gundy is still in the mix, along with Tom Thibodeau and Vinny Del Negro.
Now he may be in the lead at the moment, but it’s the Pelicans decision to make. Gentry would be a decent fit in New Orleans but I’d also think that Tom Thibodeau would do well there. But when it comes to Thibs, everybody wants him so obviously the Pels can’t put all their eggs in the Thibodeau basket.
