The Golden State Warriors are asking advertisers to pay between $15 million and $20 million per year for ads on jerseys, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell. That is expected to be the most any team is asking for.
The NBA will feature such advertisements for the first time next season, in the form of small patches. So far, only the Philadelphia 76ers have consummated a deal for the ads.
The Warriors asking price is steep to say the least. But it also makes plenty of sense. The Sixers’ three-year with Stubhub is worth $5 million per year.
The Dubs will be featured on plenty more national TV games next season. They now have two of the three most marketable players in the NBA. And they will, in all likelihood, play into June (or at least late into May) giving more time for those ads to shine.
This is all not to mention that they play in one of the larger markets in the country. Additionally, their local TV deal and ratings continue to soar with the success of the team.
Playing in the heart of Silicon Valley, the Warriors will have plenty of suitors for these advertisements. As each potential advertiser bids on the ads (and possibly more opportunities that come with it), it will become more and more likely that the Dubs receive their $20M asking price.
