Andre “Dr. Dre” Young and Jimmy Iovine are having a pretty eventful week. Just a few days ago, the duo announced the launch of their own high school in Los Angeles. Together, they plan to help train high school scholars to enter the tech and entertainment industries by either joining giant companies like Apple or starting their own. As the week comes to a close, it appears that the two have another major announcement.
In 2018, Young and Iovine signed on to produce a biopic about the life and career of legendary singer Marvin Gaye. Three years later, their efforts have warranted a deal at Warner Bros. Andrew Lazar has inked a deal to join the producer duo while Allan Hughe will direct the picture. Rounding out the squad, poet-playwright Marcus Gardley will write the script.
Early reports suggest that the biopic will not follow the traditional chronological format. Instead, the film will tie past events to Gaye’s final tour. Along the way, viewers will see his rise to success, celebrate the people who inspired his music and examine the ills that darkened his light.
At this time, there is no word as to who will play Gaye or when the film will arive. More information is to come in the next few months.
