It’s fight night in Las Vegas, Nevada. More than a year after Tyson Fury dethroned Deontay Wilder with a stunning seventh round knockout, the two men will square off for a third time in T-Mobile Arena. Before the main event begins, there are a number of preliminary fights on the docket.
Julian “J Rock” Williams made his return to the boxing ring after taking a 21-month break following a stunning loss to Jarett Hurd in Philadelphia. Bouncing back from only the second loss of his championship career, Williams stepped into the ring with a motivated man by the name of Vladimir Hernandez.
Early in the fight, Williams controlled the fight by remaining calm and continuing to land the right hand. As a result, he was able to do damage to both of Hernandez’s eyes. While Hernandez sustained cuts across both eyes, he continued to put pressure on Williams. More specifically, he landed a number of body shots that paid off later in the fight. After the sixth round, Williams began to wear down and struggle to move around the ring. With enough energy to fight for 15 rounds, Hernandez closed out the fight strong.
At the end of the 10th round, many believed that Williams struggled down the stretch, but won enough of the early rounds to get the win. However, many were wrong. Hernandez impressed the judges enough to win a split decision. With a devastating and unexpected loss, it’s unclear where Williams will go from here. Meanwhile, the sky is the limit for Hernandez after scoring the biggest win of his career thus far.
