Sometimes in sports and in the NBA; owners, GM’s, players, have to make it clear to the media what they will or will not be doing. The Sacramento Kings Vlade Divac did exactly that when clarifying that he will not be trading DeMarcus Cousins. Vlade who is essentially the owner and decision maker for the Kings for right now, has made it clear how much he likes DeMarcus and his basketball ability, saying that he is better then Shaq. A couple of weeks ago, Vlade denied the trade rumors and today he is here to put it to rest once and for all. The Sacramento Kings will not be trading DeMarcus Cousins this off-season.
According to the Sacramento Bee:
Additionally, he scoffed at rumors suggesting he would consider trading his All-Star center.
“That is not happening,” Divac said forcefully, “but I would love to do something, a smaller move, before the draft. We have a lot of changes to make. The league is much more up-tempo now, and we need more three-point shooting. If we don’t get that in the draft, we’ll be active in free agency and see about making trades later in the offseason.
“We know our coach and the pieces he needs. And I really believe we are going to be a totally different team next season, with different energy. Our goal next year is not only to have a winning season, but a playoff season. This draft is important, but it’s only the beginning.”
I live by the opinion that no NBA player is untradeable, unless you are LeBron James. I don’t like it when GM’s and owners claim that a player is untradeable, because at the end of the day, they are. If an attractive enough offer is made to the team, the Kings will have no choice but to take it. DeMarcus has voiced his frustration (as he does) about the direction this franchise is going. DeMarcus is one his way up in the league and he wants to make sure the Kings will be following him to the top as well. DeMarcus is a hard asset to trade because his emotional stability and mentality lower his stock, causing teams to low-ball trades. He also is one of the most talented NBA players, which causes the paradox. With that being said, it doesn’t matter, the Kings will NOT be trading DeMarcus, not just yet.
