DeMarcus Cousins has been in the rumor mill seemingly every year of his career. But for the first time, there appears to be some certainty about his future in Sacramento.
Kings’ GM Vlade Divac spoke to ESPN’s Marc Stein, maintaining that the team would not be trading its star center prior to this season’s daedline.
“We’re not trading DeMarcus,” Divac told ESPN. “We hope he’s here for a long time.”
Sources told ESPN that Divac recently met face to face with Cousins and his representatives to make it clear that the 26-year-old is not being made available to interested teams and encouraged them to ignore any media speculation leading up to the trade deadline.
This story comes on the heels of a report that the Phoenix Suns had attempted to trade for Boogie Cousins. According to Stein, that offer included TJ Warren, Alex Len, and a first round pick.
But the Kings do not seem to be interested in that offer or any others. There have been previous reports that Cousins will sign a designated player extension with the Kings this summer.
While anything could change until then, it appears that for the first time in a long time, Cousins is at peace in Sacramento. The team has had moderate success this year and the makings of a future with Boogie at the center of it can be seen. That’s not to mention that the new CBA gives huge financial incentives for a star of Cousins’ caliber to stay with their incumbent team.
Nothing is certain when DeMarcus Cousins and the Sacramento Kings are involved but Divac’s comments seem to indicate fairly strongly that the All-NBA center will be in Sacramento for the near future.
