Virginia Governor Ralph Northam and his wife, Pamela Northam, have tested positive for COVID-19. Gov. Northam’s office made the announcement after the couple underwent PCR testing on Friday. A member of Northam’s staff reportedly tested positive for the virus which prompted contact tracing procedures to take place.
“As I’ve been reminding Virginians throughout this crisis, COVID-19 is very real and very contagious,” he said.
“The safety and health of our staff and close contacts is of utmost importance to Pam and me, and we are working closely with the Department of Health to ensure that everyone is well taken care of.”
Northam is currently experiencing “mild symptoms.” There is no word as to his wife’s health at this time. The couple will self-isolate for the next 10 days as the governor works from his home.
“The best thing you can do for us — and most importantly, for your fellow Virginians — is to take this seriously,” he added.
