According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vince Staples has landed his first shot as a leading man in the upcoming film Punk. Staples’ music has been featured in many film and television projects over the last few years. The rapper made his acting debut as a minor character in 2015’s Dope.
The film will also mark the feature film debut of director Richard Hughes. Hughes is an award-winning commercial director from Austrailia. Punk was also written by Hughes.
Staples will star as a man named Peter after he receives a rough rejection letter. Peter decides to check out for a while and goes on a road trip with a seemingly harmless group of hippie-types. Once on the road, Peter learns that the group is actually a group of bank robbers with a leader who seems a lot like a modern-day Robin Hood. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Braden Aftergood will produce the film.
No further casting information or a release date have been announced for the film so far. It’s likely that the film won’t hit theaters until late 2019 or 2020.
