The 18-year NBA veteran is quite content with his ability to be an effective player, even at age 40. However, he is not wrong to feel this way. His mileage is tremendous but he claims to feel great and he just played a playoff series while guarding Kawhi Leonard for a good portion of it. He also stated,
“I could play three more rounds of basketball right now.”
His veteran leadership and three-point shooting can make him a valued role player for almost, if not every team in the league. Carter will be playing next season and he’s still saying “Two more years and I’m done.” Luckily, we get to appreciate him for a little while longer.
“I said to myself ‘I want to play 15 years’. I don’t know where I got that from. And the I got to 15 years and I kept going. I never capped it, but at the same time I’ve had a lot of players remind me of things I’ve said,”
It would be nice to see Carter sign with a contender this offseason, but ultimately, the decision is his and his alone. The once high-flyer NBA All-Star has developed his game remarkably throughout his career.
