The defensive breakdown shown here from the Portland Trail Blazers is just another reason they took a 100-86 defeat against the Memphis Grizzlies. Instead of hustling back on defense, the Trail Blazers jogged backed while the Grizzlies were setting up their fast break and getting ready for an easy dunk.
The play would have never happened if the Trail Blazers would have tried to stop it, but Beno Udrih noticed the lack of hustle and made a simple bounce pass to Tony Allen for a wide open dunk. To make matters worse, nobody even tried to contest the dunk, but at least none of the Trail Blazers got posterized.
If Portland wants to have any chance to beat Memphis in the series, or even in a game in the series, they are going to have to communicate much better and work harder on the defensive end. Baskets like these are unacceptable for any level of basketball, and can not be given up in a playoff game in the NBA.
