Even after a 106-93 over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night, Marcin Gortat took his post game interview as an opportunity to take some shots at his teammates. Gortat made it clear to his teammates and anybody watching the interview that if he is given more opportunities to score, the Wizards will be an unstoppable force in the Eastern Conference. This was proven as the Wizards controlled the entire game until the role players almost blew the game, and then were taken back out in place of the starters.
Hopefully, Gortat’s teammates do not take this as an insult, and rather take it as the Gortat trying to help the Wizards win. Using the pick-and-roll has been successful for the Wizards all season, and Gortat is right when he points out it lead the team to a victory. Randy Wittman needs to wake up and notice this, and use it more often when he creates his offensive game plans.
The Wizards don’t need any more issues than what they already have, so it would have been better for Gortat to bring this out in the locker room. This team with a lot of young stars should listen to their elders, and give the man some more touches for open shots.
