Steph Curry has no regard for human life. Entering the most highly anticipated game of the NBA season, the Warriors point guard showed up in full force, showing once again why he has staked claim to the title of best player in the NBA.
Against the San Antonio Spurs and their first-ranked defense, Curry put on a show, scoring 37 points on 12-20 (6-9 from three) shooting. The reigning MVP added four assists, two rebounds, and five steals to stamp his full impact on the game. Perhaps the most impressive part of his game, however, was that Steph did all of that in only 28 minutes, many of which came against reigning Defensive Player of the Year, Kawhi Leonard. It was a monumental game from the player who seems to be running away with the MVP award.
Curry was not alone, however, as the entire Warriors team had one of its most impressive outings. The Spurs, the second best team in the NBA in terms of their record and the team billed by most as the biggest threat to the Warriors, did not stand a chance from fairly early on in the game. With Curry, Draymond Green, and the rest of the Warriors working together to put in a huge effort, Golden State raced out to a large lead that they never gave up, eventually winning 120-90.
This game comes exactly one week after the Warriors blew out the Cleveland Cavaliers and it is further evidence that the Warriors may be a step above everyone else in the league. It is only one game and Spurs’ center Tim Duncan did not play, but it is still a hugely impressive team for the Warriors – one that can be looked at in the future as evidence of the team’s dominance through this impressive season.
The Warriors improved to 41-4 on the year while the Spurs dropped to 38-7.
