The Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant drama dominated the early 2000’s and got to the point where Kobe Bryant let it be known. It was either gonna be him or Shaq on the Los Angeles Lakers. The LA front office went with Kobe. Shaq was traded to Miami and we had our first real public NBA beef. Nothing before this reached the levels of Shaq vs Kobe.
Just over a decade later, it appears all the animosity between the two is just about gone. Shaq was seen at Kobe’s final game with the Lakers, Kobe was at O’Neal’s Lakers statue ceremony and the two have reconnected over the years.
But, there still is a sense of competitiveness between the formerly dominant duo and NBA 2k made sure to drum up some fun with the former NBA MVP’s. As the end of the 2016-17 season approaches, the planning for 2017-18 begins and one of the first steps is to announce the NBA 2k18 cover athletes.
First up is the ‘Legend Edition’ cover and Shaquille O’Neal was honored this year. In a new NBA 2k commercial Kobe Bryant, the first NBA 2k ‘Legend Edition’ cover athlete, made sure that Shaq knew all about who came before him.
