Russell Westbrook has almost quietly been on a tear, lately. The Oklahoma City Thunder point guard has led his team to a strong finish in the regular season by putting his imprint all over the game.
Westbrook has been racking up triple-doubles all season and he did it once again in a huge road win against the Toronto Raptors. The guard scored 26 points on a very efficient 10-16 shooting night and added 12 assists and 11 rebounds to complete the milestone.
The night signified Westbrook’s sixteenth triple-double of the season, more than anyone else in the league. That also puts him one shy of tying Magic Johnson’s single-season record of 17, a potentially incredible feat.
That Westbrook has done this in such a short amount of time is just as impressive, with the Thunder star matching Michael Jordan for the most triple-doubles in a month at seven.
Most importantly, the Thunder were able to get the win, continuing a strong finish to the season. That is crucial for a team billed as the only team outside of the Warriors and Spurs as having any tenable chance at winning the Western Conference.
Russell Westbrook’s play has been the major catalyst for this run and performances like this will always keep the Thunder in contention against anyone.
