Russell Westbrook had an impressive season debut against the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday but it was overshadowed by the debut of ‘The Process”, Joel Embiid. But his output was fantastic, posting a near triple-double. But in the Thunder’s home opener against the Phoenix Suns, Russell Westbrook hit that triple-double mark and did it in historic fashion.
Russ posted a triple-double scoring 51 points, grabbing 13 rebounds and handing out 10 assists on the night. Not only did he explode in the Thunder victory, his stat line is quite historic. He’s the first player since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to post a 50+ point triple-double and he tied Wilt Chamberlain for the third most points in a triple-double. Only Wilt and Elgin Baylor have scored more than Russ in a triple-double in NBA history. Kevin Durant who?

Afterward, Royce Young of ESPN reports that Victor Oladipo had high praise for the Thunder star point guard.
“Not being here, you hear a lot about him. You hear a lot of rumors. You hear a lot of things,” Victor Oladipo said. “But sitting by him and working with him every day, and building a friendship with him every day, you realize what type of man he truly is. And this dude right here wants to win more than anyone in the world. And he’ll do anything to do that. The misconception of what he used to be or what he is, is false.”
And what was on Russell Westbrook’s mind after the historic game? Well, food, of course.
