In what some may call ‘garbage time’, the Portland Trail Blazers had a big 21 point lead over the Detroit Pistons last night. With about 1 minute to go, there was a fast break play at the rim and Pistons forward Shawne Williams felt someone give him a little push in the back. It was Blazers center Meyers Leonard who came and slightly pushed Williams and Williams didn’t like that. Williams had words for Leonard, but got even more upset when Blazers big man Joel Freeland chimed in to stick up for his teammate.
Then the headbutts ensued between the 2 bench players and it got them both ejected for the scuffle. Maybe Williams was upset that the Pistons went from potentially sneaking into the playoffs to their current 9 game losing streak.
It might not be like any of the scuffles we’ve seen recently but this won’t be anything that would dramatically affect either team. Fines are sure to be coming for the veteran Williams and the ‘British Bulldog’ Freeland.
