The Hawks knew the ball was going to Paul Pierce with time winding down, and he still found a way to bank in the jumper while being triple teamed. This is why the Wizards signed The Truth in free agency and lured him towards becoming a centerpiece for Washington. Everybody in the Verizon Center knew who would be taking the shot, and all were ready to celebrate as soon as the ball left Pierce’s hands.
Even though Paul Pierce had to use the glass to have the shot fall, the home crowd went wild as the shot fell in and gave the Wizards a 103-101 victory. The team seemed to be ready to give away the lead, but Pierce was not going to let the Wizards fall behind 2-1 in the series. Every game counts, and Pierce has now helped the Wizards gain a lead in a series they were ready to fall behind in.
