Late in the season opening game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Chicago Bulls, the game was in the hands of ‘The King’, LeBron James.
Earlier in the game, Kevin Love hit back-to-back threes to pull the Cavs within two. Without Joakim Noah, who left the game earlier due to a knee injury, the Bulls were forced to use Taj Gibson because Pau Gasol was simply getting burned on defense all night by either Tristan Thompson or Kevin Love and he was getting straight up exposed on pick and rolls. Gibson then fouled out so without Noah or Taj, new coach Fred Hoiberg was forced to use Gasol in an important part of the game.
With 10 seconds to go and Matthew Dellavedova inbounding the Cavs went to exploit Gasol’s deficiencies he was having on the defensive end and switched him onto LeBron James coming off a pick and roll. Not the most ideal matchup.
Little did LeBron know, Pau was channeling his inner Dikembe Mutumbo and the Spaniard made what would eventually be the game-saving block on ‘The King’.
