Over the years, twitter has gone from a simple social networking site to a place where you can seemingly do it all. You can connect with friends, athletes, celebrities in just 140 characters or via direct messages. Twitter is place where people go to make funny jokes, remember some of the best and brightest we’ve lost and also a place where many outlets use it to push their brand, content and everything in between. Jimmy Kimmel has even used it to make fun of celebrities on his show.
Kobe Bryant’s final game broke Twitter, there has been countless new stories that first saw the time of day on twitter and there are memorable tweets all around from the sports world but some tweets aren’t as light hearted and memorable. Some are just plain evil and unnecessary.
This especially comes true when it comes to women in sports. While athletes don’t even run their twitter account half the time, members of the media are the ones who have to handle their own personal public relations. Bigger names have teams to do this but some don’t and they have to sometimes read the disgusting and plain out horrible things people say on twitter.
Hidden behind default eggs and pictures of their favorite athletes, artists, animals and even sometimes their own kids, people go on twitter and belittle others for just simply doing their job. This video, courtesy of Just Not Sports, shows real men read real tweets to two female sports reporters. Sarah Spain and Julie DiCaro have seen these tweets, these men have not. This should serve a reminder to all, please keep in mind those people you tweet have to go through their lives too, just like you do.
