After already receiving a warning earlier this season, Marcin Gortat has been fined $5,000 for his flop against the Utah Jazz in Wednesday night’s 88-84 win. Gortat was going for a rebound, and appeared to be pushed a little in the back by Jazz guard/forward Rodney Hood. There may have been a push, but Gortat really did sell it, and ended up having the foul called on Hood in his favor.
Gortat seems to do this a lot, where he is going for a rebound and then suddenly flies out of bounds even though he is battling with a smaller opposing player. Sometimes, it is hard to tell if he is selling the call, or if he just does not have the balance to be able to stay away from flying out of bounds.
If Gortat should have sold it a little less, he could have escaped a fine. There may have been a foul, but his reaction was for sure unnecessary, and was a little too much acting for the NBA’s liking. The $5000 fine is probably deserved on Gortat’s part, but it shouldn’t hurt his bank account too much after receiving his new $60 million contract over the past offseason.
He doesn’t seem too phased.
