When the Memphis Grizzlies hosted the Orlando Magic you had to think the Grizzlies would put this game away early.
Well they did and on their way to another win at home, Marc Gasol decided to showcase some of his international style of play or maybe why he should be the lead attraction at Sea World this summer.
Gasol was fouled and usually when the ball goes up and misses a guy would grab it and just throw it up. Instead, Gasol decided to try and head it into the goal ala Rob van Persie. (van Persie actually scored an amazing header goal against Gasol’s native country, Spain, in the 2014 World Cup.)
He was a key member of the Spanish national team that won FIBA EuroBasket in 2009 and earned a silver medal at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics, he was the 2008 MVP of Spain’s top pro league, the NBA’s 2012-13 Defensive Player of the Year, and a two-time All-Star who will also start at center for the Western Conference this year, tipping the ball off against his brother, Pau.
Like so many European players and athletes from his native Spain, ‘Big Spain’ showed off why his first love was soccer.
The best part of the video is the birthday boy, Vince Carter, and his antics. Rewatch it and see what ‘Half-man, Half-amazing’ was doing while Gasol was messing around.
It’s interesting though, this isn’t the first time we saw some of these header skills with a basketball from an international star.
