Kristaps Porzingis has arrived!! The 7-foot-3 Porzingis had 12 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field, made 6-of-7 free throws, grabbed three rebounds and blocked two shots in only 18 minutes. His playing time was limited however due to a sore hip. New York Knicks fans had anxiously been waiting to see their “controversial” No. 4 Pick play in his debut for the NBA Summer League, and fortunately they weren’t disappointed nor exuberant about what they witnessed.
These Knicks fans at the Thomas and Mack Center were very generous with their praise tho, cheering on Porzingis and even screaming for the team’s guards to give him the ball when he posted up.
“The opposite what I heard on draft night — it was nice to hears some cheers out there, they finally saw me play, hopefully, now some of those booing fans are cheering.”
Porzingis still needs to work on his conditioning, but he showed flashes of his potential in the Knicks’ 78-73 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Summer League action. Porzingis was proud of his debut, he even tweeted out an infographic of his performance. Let’s hope he doesn’t become too obsessed with his numbers and forget to rebound like some other European we know *cough..Andrea (Baloni) Bargnani.
