Kobe Bryant decided to put up a throwback Thursday in real life. The Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard found some springs in his old legs to put down one of his few dunks this season. In the second quarter of the Lakers’ eventual 118-115 loss to the Sacramento Kings, Bryant rose up high to dunk home an alley-oop feed from teammate Jordan Clarkson. The play was reminiscent of the Kobe of old – the same one that repeatedly torched the Kings over a twenty year career.
With Bryant in the twilight of his career, these plays come far too rarely. The veteran does not have the lift to do this on a consistent basis but that might make these few plays even more enjoyable to watch. Previously, Kobe broke Twitter by dunking over the Houston Rockets’ Clint Cappela. This time, there were no victims other than the Kings’ pride. However, the dunk was quite spectacular if just for the fact that Clarkson had faith in Bryant being able to get up there for the dunk. Here is another view of the play:
The Black Mamba had one of his better efforts of the season on Thursday night, putting up 28 points on 10-18 shooting and adding two rebounds and three assists. All in all, it was a glimmer of vintage Kobe, something we hope we can see more of as the season continues.
