Klay Thompson had himself a Klay Thompson kind of night. The Golden State Warriors’ shooting guard caught fire early on in the team’s win against the Dallas Mavericks and never looked back as he exploded for 45 points.
As usual, Thompson did major damage from behind the three point line. However, the guard mixed in multiple drives to the rim, scoring layups in bunches. Throughout the night, the Mavericks were unable to guard Thompson, both with the ball and without it. As a result, Thompson was able to pour in his 45 points with some insanely efficient shooting splits: 14-20 overall, 7-12 from three, and 10-10 from the free throw line.
It was an altogether great game from Thompson as he helped power the Warriors to a 127-107 victory against a Mavs’ team that beat the Warriors earlier this season. The performance may have come too late to sway coaches votes for the all-star reserves (which will be revealed on Thursday) but Thompson has a legitimate claim to deserving a spot through the rest of the season as well.
If nothing else, his performance on Wednesday was indicative of an all-star caliber player who can on any given night take over an entire game.
