After the recent and tragic deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile due to two separate police shootings in Baton Rouge and in Minnesota, protests and rally’s have been sparked all throughout the United States. After the retaliations in Dallas by protestors, people are now beginning to address the issues. Many NBA players and superstars have spoken out about the shootings, including LeBron James, Kevin Durant and DeMarcus Cousins. Now, former Houston Rocket and NBA champion Kenny Smith has spoken out about police brutality and how he views the situation at hand.
In his own State Of The Union, Kenny Smith posted a thought provoking 15 minute long video on his Facebook today, inciting examples that include Bill Russell, Rodney King and many other situations he has seen, past and present, regarding racism in America:
Smith even mentioned that he does not find it a coincidence that the same week pre-dominantly African American NBA Players are getting paid millions of dollars, due to free agency, that 2 shootings occurred. The protests have not stopped and the police have begun to enforce even more force into stopping these demonstrations. With the situation developing everyday, there’s really no telling what might happen next. The people’s voice has been heard, now it’s up to someone to change something.
