Kemba Walker went off during the Charlotte Hornets day game against the Utah Jazz on Martin Luther King Day and he set a new scoring mark on one of the biggest days in the NBA.
Walker almost had a triple-double when he dropped 52 points on 16-34 shooting including shooting 6-11 from the three point line and 14-15 from the free throw line with nine rebounds and eight assists on the day. Walker hit some tough shots, excelled on the pick and roll when matched up with the slower defender in Rudy Gobert and knocked down a career-high six threes. Walker’s 52 point career-high is also a new Charlotte Hornets record, eclipsing the 48 points from Glen Rice in 1997.
The Hornets almost lost following some late heroics from Jazz star Gordon Hayward when he dropped 36 points and nine assists on the day.
Interesting enough, Walkers’s teammate, Marvin Williams, told Kemba he was going to drop 50 in the game. Following from Bill Kiser of the Associated Press.
“Marvin told me, ‘You’re going to get a 50 ball tonight,'” Walker said after the game, according to Bill Kiser of The Associated Press. “I didn’t pay no attention actually until he told me again after the game. He was right. He called it.”
