The NBA season has not gone very well for the Los Angeles Lakers, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Armed with a young, talented core, the team could be getting closer to becoming a competitive squad, soon.
One of those players, second year big-man Julius Randle, showed a glimpse of that bright future by posting his first career triple-double on Friday. The power forward scored 13 points on 6-10 shooting and added 18 rebounds and 10 assists (some sought after in garbage time) to get the milestone achievement. At 21 years old, Randle became the youngest Laker since Magic Johnson to record a triple-double.
Randle has already been a double-double machine, averaging 11.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per game on the season. But he flashed a more all-around playing style by adding the career-high ten assists to his game.
The Lakers ended up losing 116-105 to the Denver Nuggets, but they could get some brightness out of the game off the performance from one of their young stars. Lakers fans will be hoping to see more similar performances from Julius Randle and the rest of the team’s young core.
