While fighting for their playoff lives, the Charlotte Hornets find a way to still stay in everyone’s minds. They’re going down in the seeding and rapidly, much to the shegrin of the fans and players alike.
There is a bright spot though and that is the play of one young forward, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Kidd-Gilcrhsit or ‘MKG’ has long be touted for his defensive prowess since he was drafted second overall in the 2012 draft. MKG has grown in not only the defensive end but offense as well, changing his once horrific jumpshot to one that actually looks like an NBA players shot.
At the end of the day though, MKG hangs his hat and will make his money based off his defensive skill.
The Hornets know it and seem to have accepted it, campaigning for him to the media with the above video and this kit that was sent to media members.

This isn’t the first time the Hornets (formerly the Bobcats) campaigned for a player. They also did it with Al Jefferson last year with his ‘Big Al’s Paint’ site trying to get him on an All-NBA team.
Now is there a case for MKG? Well the stats say no, to an extent. His defensive rating is just 96.3 which is towards the bottom 5 of players who have played 50 games and average 25 minutes per game. His offensive efficiency is actually better than his defensive efficiency per NBA.com. He’s also only averaging 0.7 blocks per game and 0.5 steals per game so. I mean his length could be a sticking point but the numbers don’t lie.
I don’t see it, but it is a good attempt by the team.
