When the news came across late last night that Phoenix Suns point guard Goran Dragic had a list of teams he wants the Suns to trade him too by Thursday’s trade deadline, the team immediately came back with a small list of their own.
Dragic presented the Suns with a short list of teams he wants to join. The Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Indiana Pacers are all teams that are a part of Dragic’s short list. The Suns saw that and responded, with some actions of their own.
The issue is, the Suns won’t find much out of those teams if he is sent to any of them. The Lakers don’t really have anything worth giving up, Knicks might have the least amount of assets in the league and the Pacers seem to be very set on keeping the team around and prepare for the return of Paul George. If the Suns do decide to send away Dragic to one of these teams, they wouldn’t be getting much back besides a deal with the Heat that would mean Luol Deng and some draft picks would be sent to Phoenix, but nothing to immediately make a deal for.
Now, Phoenix has returned with a list of their own consisting of the Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings and Boston Celtics. All teams with a couple of assets that the Suns could use, including draft picks and young players like the Rockets with Terrence Jones and Patrick Beverley, Kings with Nik Stauskas and Derrick Williams or the Celtics with Jared Sullinger, Evan Turner and the plethora of picks they have.
Either way, something has to happen and fast because from the sounds of it, Dragic is fed up with the Suns and the front office and is in dire need of a change in scenery.
