Dirk Nowitzki continues to amaze. The Dallas Mavericks’ legendary power forward passed Shaquille O’Neal in the NBA’s all-time scoring list on Wednesday night against the Brooklyn Nets, cementing his place as the sixth highest scorer in NBA history. Nowitzki currently sits behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, and Wilt Chamberlain. That is certainly great company for the German product.
Nowitzki has continued to play at a high level in his 18th season in the league. If he chooses to continue playing basketball after this season, which it appears he can certainly do, he would have a good chance of rising even higher on the scoring list. He currently has just under 3000 fewer points, which is definitely an achievable amount in the next year and a half.
Whether Dirk does move up higher, however, is mostly irrelevant. He has already cemented himself as one of the greatest players in NBA history, a revolutionary one at his position, and perhaps the greatest international player to have played in the NBA. He is a sure-fire first ballot hall of famer and a legend in the history of the game of basketball.
Congratulations to Dirk Nowitzki on his huge accomplishment.
