Things in ‘Big D’ aren’t exactly what you would call, ‘great’ right now. The Dallas Mavericks are almost guaranteed to be in the 7 seed in the Western Conference for the playoffs and they have been through their share of tumultuous issues throughout the year.
They do win with one thing though, their media department. They started the season off strong when the team came out with the Dallas Mavericks version of ‘Run DMC’ featuring Dirk Nowitzki, Monta Ellis, Chandler Parsons.
Now, they are showcasing their plethora of guards to everyone in this new spot that plays off the Marvel hit movie, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘. (Which by the way, is a fantastic movie).
The Mavs present ‘Guards of the Galaxy’ featuring Monta Ellis, Rajon Rondo, J.J. Barea, Raymond Felton and Devin Harris with a special appearance from a German star at the end as well. Now if one was to categorize the players I think it would go something like this.
Monta Ellis would definitely be ‘Star-Lord’ as the leader with a fun side to him, a rebel who didn’t know his way until he finally shaped up and started doing things to make his team better.
Rajon Rondo would undoubtedly be ‘Drax the Destroyer’, an outcast who has trouble fitting in with everyone and seems to always do his own thing.
Raymond Felton would be the character ‘Gamora’. She’s just trying to do well by everyone and make up for her ‘past crimes’ and well, Felton had a pretty interesting summer in 2014.
J.J. Barea would undoubtedly be ‘Rocket the Raccoon’. Barea relates to Rocket because he is the smallest one out of the bunch but he is one of the bravest at the same time, always taking risks and going up against anyone, no matter their size.
Finally, I would cast Devin Harris for the role of ‘Groot’, instead of Dirk Nowitzki. Harris much like the Groot character is ‘innocent. He’s a hundred percent deadly and a hundred percent sweet’ as Guardians director Tim Gun described the tree-like character. Plus, Harris just keeps quiet and sit there, only coming up big when his team needs him the most.
Congrats to the Mavs, you definitely got this right.
