The Florida Gators and Wisconsin Badgers had an instant classic at Madison Square Garden on Friday night. The second day of the 2017 Sweet Sixten saw four teams in the East Region some would say were not the favorites to be there. First weekend upsets from South Carolina, and Wisconsin saw Villanova and Duke go down early, and the teams at MSG were not all of the ones many expected.
But shortly after South Carolina pulled off another upset and handed a blowout to Oregon Wisconsin and Florida took the floor. For a majority of the contest, it looked like Florida would close the deal going into the final minutes. Wisconsin roared back from down eight within the final two minutes thanks to big plays from Bronson Koenig and Zak Showalter. But Florida hung on and forced overtime.
In the extra period, the Gators and Badgers exchanged mini-runs but at the end of the contest, Chris Chiozza took over the game, and he hit a miraculous game-winning shot.
Chris Chiozza’s shot becomes an instant classic in NCAA Tournament history. The Florida Gators will go on to face the South Carolina Gamecocks with a Final Four berth on the line.
