For the majority of Tyronn Lue’s career, he was an after thought on most teams. Well just about all 8 of the teams he played for in his 11 year career as a deep bench player, coming on mostly in garbage time. But one iconic moment against the 76ers may have been a staple in his career.
Early on, Lue was a promising prospect out of Nebraska. So promising in fact, the Los Angeles Lakers traded for Lue and gave up Nick Van Exel in the process. Lue for Nick ‘The Quick’, go figure.
Fast forward after the 1998 draft and its 2001, the NBA finals and the Lakers are playing against Allen Iverson and the Philadelphia 76ers. Iverson was having an insane year and he had a great finals series, but his team came up short losing the series 4-1.
But in the process, the ‘Stepover’ happened.
The one iconic moment in both the careers of Lue and Iverson is when A.I. took a jumpshot, Lue fell and then Iverson hit the shot and proceeded to step over Lue who was on the ground in disbelief. Fittingly, Lue then left the Lakers to join the Washington Wizards but did leave wearing 2 championship rings.
Now we’re in 2015 and a fan has decided to take a picture with Lue, who is now an assistant coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers, during the recent Cavaliers game in Philadelphia against the 76ers with quite the interesting shirt.
Gotta give it up to Lue for being a great sport about it and understanding it’s all in good fun and that moment is behind him, but not the fans. This is just great to watch Lue’s reaction.
