During the Clippers’ Sunday night matchup vs. the Boston Celtics, Blake Griffin made an absolutely insane block on Jonas Jerebko.
Jerebko really didn’t do anything wrong on this play. He smoothly caught the outlet pass from Isaiah Thomas, and pulled a successful pump-fake on Blake Griffin, getting him up in the air.
Yet even after the fake, when Jerebko went up with the layup, Griffin was still there, somehow managing to turn around in midair, swatting the shot away with his left hand.
Blake Griffin has always been an absurdly athletic player, so him staying in the air that long isn’t too surprising. However, Griffin has never been regarded as a very good defender.
If Blake Griffin could evolve into an elite defender, he would truly be a terrifying player. This impressive rejection is a step in the right direction.
