The Pelicans came back from a 14 point deficit to upset the league-leading Warriors 103-100. The win helped the Pelicans jump into the 8th spot in the Western Conference, moving ahead of the Thunder. After the game, Anthony Davis said that the Warriors “said it was going to be a scrimmage.” Maybe the fact that the Warriors viewed the game as a scrimmage was the reason that they lost the game.
(Davis’ quote starts at the 6:02 mark, or you can just watch the whole highlight clip from his awesome game.)
In the video, Davis says,
“It means a lot. They came out and said it was going to be scrimmage game. We kind of took that personal.”
He would not name anyone in particular.
Anthony Davis finished the game with a double-double, scoring 29 points, pulling down 10 rebounds, and blocking 4 shots in the game. Davis wasn’t the only one who noticed the Warriors approach to the game, as Trew 2 The Game, an ESPN Truehoop writer, tweeted saying,
Fyi, my ball boy contact told me that many Warrior players are calling tonight’s game a scrimmage.

The Pelicans are excited about beating the best team in the NBA and made the Warriors rethink how they should approach their next game against them. The Pelicans are now the 8 seed in the conference, and they will see the Warriors for the first round if that stays. If the Warriors play the game like a scrimmage in the playoffs like they did tonight, they could end up losing to the Pelicans.
